Albukhary Foundation Sponsors Two Hostels In Kota Marudu

KOTA MARUDU: Children of two schools in northern Sabah can look forward to a brighter future with the building of two rural hostels to provide better learning facilities for them.

The hostels in SK Pantai in Pitas and SK Tanjung Batu in Kota Marudu, costing RM350,000 and RM300,000 respectively, are sponsored by the Al-Bukhary Foundation.

Malaysian Capacity-building Initiatives

Malaysia faces a shortage of bumiputera talent to engage effectively in a nation that is rapidly moving up the value chain. There is a need for capacity building at various points, from students, skilled workers to professionals, both in terms of relevant skills and outlook, so they can actively participate in a Malaysia racing to become a developed nation by 2020. To hasten capacity building of the bumiputra community, the foundation contributed RM10 million in 2012 for the Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputra to implement a range of programs that will raise the competency and competitiveness of bumiputra talent.

Grooming Future Leaders

The Albukhary Foundation signed an MOU in March 2012 to build sports facilities and an auditorium at Kompleks PERMATA Pintar Negara. This is part of Phase 2 of the campus development for PERMATA Pintar Negara.

PERMATA Pintar Negara is a national educational programme for gifted Malaysian students. The brainchild of the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, it is being implemented by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

At the keynote address of the International Conference on Global Movement of Moderates in January 2012, Malaysian Prime Minister proposed the establishment of a foundation to put into action the philosophy of the movement. The call for funding witnessed the Albukhary Foundation donated seed money to start the ball rolling in the latter part of 2012.
